Peak Saver asks your enrolled Mysa to quietly turn the heat down by a couple of degrees for up to four hours during those busy moments, so the grid never gets overloaded. It’s a small thing for you — most people don’t even notice the change — but when hundreds of thousands of homes do it together, BC Hydro can avoid building expensive new infrastructure and passes those savings straight back to you as free smart thermostats and bill credits.

What happens during a peak event?

A peak event is a short window when BC Hydro needs to lower electricity demand, usually on a very cold morning or evening. Your home may be pre-heated by about 2°C first. During the event, the setpoint drops by up to 3°C and the heaters can stay off to save energy. When it ends, your Mysa returns to the temperature you set.

What is the BC Hydro Peak Saver program?

Peak Saver is a BC Hydro program that helps manage electricity demand during peak periods. During a peak event, BC Hydro may temporarily adjust enrolled smart devices. For an enrolled Mysa thermostat, the temperature setpoint may be lowered by up to 3°C. After the event, the thermostat returns to its normal settings. You remain in control and can change the temperature at any time.

Who is eligible for Peak Saver?

You must be the BC Hydro residential account holder with an active MyHydro profile, own your home or be a tenant with the owner’s consent, and have an eligible device. BC Hydro accounts on the E-Plus rate aren’t eligible.

When do peak events happen, and how long do they last?

Peak Saver’s winter season runs from November 1 to March 31. An event lasts no more than four hours. There may be up to two events in one day, and events aren’t scheduled on Christmas Day.

What happens to my thermostat during a peak event?

You don’t need to do anything. During an event, BC Hydro may lower the Mysa thermostat setpoint by up to 3°C remotely. When the event ends, your thermostat returns to its normal operation and settings.

Can I opt out of a peak event?

Yes. You can opt out at any time by changing the temperature on the thermostat or in the Mysa app. You’re always in control. If you opt out of more than 50% of the season’s events, you may not be eligible for that season’s reward.

How does the $50 seasonal reward work?

If you stay enrolled and take part in at least half of the season’s events, you will receive a $50 BC Hydro bill credit for the smart thermostat category. Seasonal reward payouts take place from April to June.

How many free Mysa thermostats can I claim?

Eligible BC Hydro residential customers with electric baseboard heating can receive up to five free Mysa for Electric Baseboard Heaters. The number available to you is shown after you sign in with MyHydro and confirm your eligibility. Shipping is free.

What heating systems does Mysa for Baseboard work with?

Mysa for Electric Baseboard Heaters is built for high-voltage electric heating systems, including electric baseboard heaters, fan-forced heaters, convectors, and radiant ceiling heating. It supports 120–240VAC systems up to 16.7A.

What wiring do I need?

Mysa requires at least four wires in the electrical box. If only two wires are present in the box, rewiring may be required. Check compatibility before ordering or contact Mysa support with a photo of the existing wiring.

Does Mysa work with Apple HomeKit, Alexa, or Google Home?

Yes. Mysa for Electric Baseboard Heaters Gen 3 is Matter certified, meaning it works with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and other Matter supporting platforms. It also connects directly to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, so no separate hub is required.

Can I install Mysa myself?

Yes. Many customers install Mysa in about 15 minutes using our step-by-step guide in the Mysa app. Always turn off power at the circuit breaker before starting. If you aren’t comfortable working with high-voltage wiring, the wiring differs from the instructions, or local rules require it, hire a licensed electrician.
