What others asked before buying
Can I control all my Mysas in the same app?
Yes. Control everything from the one app. Manage baseboard heating, ductless mini-splits, central HVAC, and electric in-floor heating in one place.Set unique schedules for each thermostat, and in the future group them all together for seamless control.
Can I control multiple baseboard heaters with a single Mysa thermostat?
Yes, as long as you stay within the power limits. You can wire multiple heaters in parallel to one Mysa thermostat (e.g., two baseboards on opposite walls of the same living room).
Check Your Wattage: The total power of all heaters combined must not exceed 3,800 Watts (at 240V) or 1,900 Watts (at 120V).Check Your Space: The electrical box (gang box) must be large enough to accommodate the extra wires and wire nuts needed to join the heaters together. If the box is too crowded ("box fill"), it can be dangerous. Heaters are often daisy-chained to reduce crowding in the thermostat box.
Can I control Mysa from my phone?
Yes. The free Mysa app gives you complete temperature control from your phone. Full control means adjusting your thermostat from bed, work, or vacation.
Can I use Mysa with GFCI breakers?
It depends on the product. Mysa for Baseboard is generally compatible with GFCI breakers. However, Mysa for In-Floor includes its own built-in GFCI protection and should not be installed on a circuit that is already protected by a GFCI breaker to avoid nuisance tripping.
Do baseboard heaters need a special thermostat?
Yes. Baseboard heaters use high-voltage (line voltage 120V-240V) power, so they need a thermostat made specifically to handle that electrical load directly. Regular low-voltage smart thermostats (like those used for furnaces or central HVAC) aren’t compatible and can be dangerous if connected to these systems.
That’s exactly why Mysa’s electric baseboard heater thermostat was created. It’s purpose-built for high-voltage electric baseboard, fan-forced in-wall, and in-ceiling heating systems. You can finally enjoy smart-home control, scheduling, and energy savings with the electric heating setup you already have!
Do baseboard heaters use a lot of electricity?
They can, especially if they’re left running continuously. Electric baseboard heaters are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat, but they can still be expensive to run if not managed properly. Factors like room insulation, window quality, and using a smart thermostat to minimize run time all influence monthly energy consumption.
Do I need an electrician to replace a thermostat?
Not always. It depends on your comfort level and local regulations. Many customers can install the smart thermostat for electric baseboard heaters in about 15 minutes using step-by-step guides. However high-voltage wiring requires strict safety guidelines. Always turn off the circuit breaker before starting. If you’re not confident, the wiring looks different than expected, or local regulations require it, you should hire a licensed electrician.
Do smart thermostats work with baseboard heaters?
Most smart thermostats aren’t designed for electric baseboard heaters - they only work with low-voltage systems like furnaces or central HVAC. But Mysa for baseboard is different. It’s built specifically for high-voltage electric heating including baseboard, fan-forced in-wall, and radiant ceiling systems.
Do thermostats go bad on electric baseboard heaters?
They can, especially older mechanical thermostats. Internal bimetal strips can degrade over time, leading to temperature swings, while dust buildup or loose wire connections can cause unresponsive controls or safety hazards.
It might be time to upgrade to an electric baseboard heater thermostat if you notice any of these signs, and your search ends here at Mysa. Not only does this solve your problems, but it gives you precise digital temperature control from anywhere!
Does it require Wi-Fi?
Yes. Mysa needs a 2.4 GHz WiFi connection to enable remote control, voice commands, smart home integration, and app-based features like energy reports . Without WiFi, the thermostat still regulates temperature using manual controls on the device itself, but you lose all smart functionality. Make sure your WiFi signal reaches the thermostat location before installation
Does Mysa have a microphone or speaker?
No. It's a thermostat, not a listening device. We believe those experiences are best left to a smart home speaker that's likely updated more often than your thermostat.
Does Mysa sell my data?
No. We sell thermostats. That's how we make money. Full stop.
Does Mysa support single-pole and double-pole wiring?
Mysa for Baseboard can replace most single-pole and double-pole thermostats, but it functions internally as a single-pole device. It requires a connection to both power wires (L1 and L2/Neutral) but only switches the power to the heater on one of those wires (the load wire).
How do I install Mysa for Baseboard?
For safety, first turn off power at the circuit breaker. Then, follow the step-by-step wiring instructions in the Mysa app. Once installed, restore power at the breaker and complete the pairing process in the app.
How do I know if my baseboard heater thermostat is bad?
They can fail. Here are some signs your baseboard heater thermostat might be failing:
- Your heater doesn’t respond when you adjust the temperature on the thermostat.
- Your room feels too hot or too cold, indicating calibration drift.
- You hear clicking, but your heater doesn’t heat up; this could indicate a burnt-out heater element.
- The faceplate of your old mechanical thermostat feels too hot to the touch. (Smart thermostats like Mysa may feel slightly warm during normal operation — this is normal.)
It might be time to upgrade to our smart thermostat for electric baseboard heaters. You’ll love being able to control the heat in every room from anywhere, and our precise calibration ensures reliable, comfortable performance.
How does a smart thermostat save more than a programmable one?
Programmable thermostats rely on manual input that often fails. Research shows 73% of owners never use the scheduling features because they are too complicated. Mysa removes this human error. Geofencing detects when you leave to lower the heat automatically, while smart schedules save 3-5 hours of runtime daily while you sleep. You save 15-26% on heating costs without touching the dial.
How much can I actually expect to save on my heating and cooling bills?
Customers typically save 10-26% on heating & cooling costs. Heating and cooling is the single largest energy expense in North American homes. Natural Resources Canada identifies heating as 61% of total energy use, while the U.S. Department of Energy confirms a simple daily temperature setback cuts annual bills by 10%. Whether you are cutting down a $2,000 annual energy bill or tackling a harsh Canadian winter, Mysa ensures you never pay to heat an empty house.
How to adjust a baseboard heater thermostat?
With a traditional dial thermostat, you must manually turn the knob until the room feels comfortable, which is often inaccurate and leads to overheating. Mysa’s smart thermostat allows you to fine‑tune the temperature digitally from the wall or your phone, set your ideal comfort level, and create weekly schedules or make quick adjustments via the app whether at home, work, or away.
I only see two wires in my gang box. Can I still install Mysa?
Mysa requires more than two wires to function. Unlike old mechanical thermostats that work like a simple light switch, Mysa is a smart device that needs continuous power to stay connected.
The Requirement
You typically need four wires in your electrical box: Supply (from the breaker) and Load (going to the heater).
The Problem
If you only have two wires, it is a "switch loop" and Mysa will not work without rewiring. We recommend you hire a licensed electrician or contact support with a photo of your current thermostat wiring
Is a neutral wire required?
Yes. Mysa for Baseboard requires a connection to both live wires in the electrical box (L1 and L2/Neutral) to power themselves; they cannot operate on a single conductor (two-wire) setups.
However, always ensure you count the wires in the junction box, not the wires coming from the existing thermostat. Many homes have an extra wire tucked into the wall. Mysa data shows less than 10% of installations only have two wires in the junction box
Is it cheaper to leave baseboard heaters on all the time?
No. It is a common misconception that it is cheaper to leave baseboard heaters running constantly. It is more cost‑effective to heat only when and where you need it. Baseboard heaters allow zonal heating, so leaving them running in empty rooms wastes energy. Mysa’s smart thermostat can help you save up to 20% on heating costs by enabling zoned control, smart schedules, and geolocation features.
Is it energy efficient?
Absolutely! The Mysa thermostat is designed to optimize energy usage, helping you save on heating costs. With features like scheduling and remote control, you can manage your energy consumption effectively. Enjoy a cozy home while being environmentally friendly.
What is Mysa?
Smart thermostats built for every system in your home. We help you save energy and maintain a comfortable home. With its user-friendly app, you can control your heating or cooling systems from anywhere.
What temperature should baseboard heat be set at?
It’s entirely up to you and your comfort level. Most homeowners using Mysa keep baseboard heaters around 68–72°F (20–22°C) when they’re home, and lower the temperature to 60–65°F (16–18°C) while sleeping or away. Mysa’s electric baseboard thermostat lets you create custom heating schedules and uses geolocation to automatically adjust the heat based on your lifestyle, maximizing comfort and energy savings.
